Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) have been fully reinstated in all pre-tertiary schools throughout Ghana, according to an official announcement from the Ghana Education Service (GES). President John Dramani Mahama ordered this action to increase stakeholder participation in the nation’s educational system.
GES emphasised in a press release on Thursday, July 17, that the decision aims to enhance community, teacher, and parent collaboration in providing Ghanaian students with high-quality education.
All heads of public senior high, technical, and STEM schools are required by the directive to immediately re-establish PTAs.
“The move is aimed at strengthening the collaboration and involvement of parents, communities, and teachers in the delivery of quality education to Ghanaian learners,” the statement said.
In the coming weeks, additional guidelines regarding the composition, functions, and financial responsibilities of PTAs will be made available.
The purpose of these guidelines is to ensure efficiency, uniformity, and transparency in PTA operations nationwide.
To ensure the seamless and successful implementation of this updated policy, GES is requesting that all parties involved, including parents and educators, provide their full support.
