Interior Minister Vows Justice for Slain Kusasi Chief

Investigations are being conducted to find and bring charges against those who killed Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region, according to Interior Minister and Asawase Member of Parliament Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.

On the evening of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, the traditional leader who was also the Chief of the Kadi Divisional Area in Binduri was allegedly shot and killed by unidentified attackers at his home close to the Asawase F-line community centre.

Witnesses reported that at approximately 8:40 p.m., two men arrived on a motorbike. Before leaving the area, one of them shot the chief with an AK-47 rifle.

The Asawase MP denounced the murder as a “heinous act” and a serious blow to the nation’s peace and security in a statement released on Wednesday, July 23. He emphasised that those at fault will face appropriate legal action.

“I want to assure the family and the people of Ghana that our security agencies are fully committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this crime are swiftly apprehended and made to face the full rigours of the law,” he wrote.

He called on citizens of the Asawase enclave to work with the security forces to make sure the offenders are held accountable and reiterated the Interior Ministry’s dedication to maintaining the rule of law.

“We remain resolute in protecting every citizen and upholding the rule of law. I call on all residents, particularly within the Asawase constituency and its environs, to remain calm and cooperate with the security agencies by providing any information that may assist in the ongoing investigations,” he added.

Additionally, the Minister offered condolences to the family of the deceased, the Ashanti Region’s Kusasi community, and the entire Kusaug traditional leadership.
