BoG Engages Faith-Based Leaders on Non-Interest Banking Framework

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) held consultations with Christian and Muslim leaders as part of efforts to develop a regulatory framework for Non-Interest Banking and Finance (NIBF).

The meeting, led by Prof. John Gatsi, Advisor at the Bank, on behalf of the Governor, Dr. Johnson Asiama, took place at the Bank Square on Thursday, 18 September 2025.

Discussions focused on international regulatory standards, governance structures, and the introduction of both NIBF windows within conventional banks and fully fledged NIBF institutions.

Prof. Gatsi underscored that NIBF will promote financial inclusion, broaden economic opportunities, and expand consumer choice, while ensuring fairness and non-discrimination.

Representatives of both faith groups welcomed the engagement and commended the Bank for fostering dialogue and collaboration on the initiative.

The BoG reaffirmed its commitment to building an inclusive financial system that serves the needs of all Ghanaians.
