Ghana officially secures 2026 FIFA World Cup spot

The senior national team of Ghana, Black Stars has officially secured a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, capping off their qualification campaign with a commanding 5-0 victory over the Central African Republic in Meknes, Morocco.

The Black Stars dominated the match, with Mohammed Salisu opening the scoring in the 21st minute courtesy of a precise corner kick from Mohammed Kudus.

Thomas Partey doubled the lead in the second half, showcasing his skill and precision, before Alexander Djiku, Jordan Ayew, and Kamaldeen Sulemana further solidified Ghana’s victory with goals in the 69th, 71st, and 87th minutes, respectively.

Kamaldeen Sulemana’s goal was particularly special, as it marked his first goal for the Black Stars.

“I have been waiting for so long, I don’t know how many years now (maybe more than 6 years), and this my first goal means a lot to me,” Sulemana said in a post-match interview. “The marathon continues.”

His teammatesMohammed Kudus and Abdul Fatawu cheered him on, with Kudus adding, “It means a lot to us too, more is coming.”

The victory sparked jubilation across Ghana, with fans taking to the streets to celebrate. Ghanaians praised the team’s performance, hailing it as a testament to their dedication and hard work. Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup marks the country’s fifth appearance in the tournament, following previous appearances in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022. Under the guidance of coach Otto Addo, the team has demonstrated remarkable resilience and consistency, with seven wins, one draw, and one loss in their nine qualifiers.
