Hajia Amina Adam Declares Intention to Contest NDC Ayawaso East Parliamentary Primary

Hajia Amina Adam, widely known as Hajia Amina Mc Naza, has formally declared her intention to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East constituency following the death of her husband earlier this year.

In a statement released on Wednesday, 22 January 2026, Hajia Amina said her decision comes after months of reflection, prayer, and appeals from party supporters and residents of the constituency, urging her to step forward and provide political leadership ahead of the upcoming by-election.

Her husband passed away on 4 January 2026, an event she described as the most difficult experience of her life, leaving what she called “a great void” in her family, the constituency, and among many supporters. She said she continues to draw strength from her faith during the mourning period.

Quoting verses from the Qur’an (2:155–157), Hajia Amina emphasised patience and submission to the will of Allah, noting that her faith has guided her decision-making at a time of personal loss.

According to her statement, the decision to contest is driven by a desire to continue and improve upon the legacy of service, vision, and commitment her late husband offered to the people of Ayawaso East during his tenure.

She confirmed that she would strictly adhere to all guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission and the National Democratic Congress concerning the by-election and internal party processes.

Addressing religious concerns, Hajia Amina stated that she is currently observing idda, the mandatory Islamic mourning period for widows, and assured the public that all campaign-related activities would be conducted in a manner that fully respects Islamic teachings and her religious obligations.

She referenced historical precedents to underscore her resolve, noting that leadership and public service have, in the past, transcended personal circumstances when driven by duty to the people.

“As a mother and a believer, my motivation is to serve my people and contribute to improving their lives,” she said.

Hajia Amina concluded her statement by calling for prayers and guidance, expressing hope that her decision would be judged on sincerity, service, and commitment to the people of Ayawaso East.

The NDC is yet to announce the full timetable for the parliamentary primary, while the Electoral Commission continues preparations for the anticipated by-election.
