The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has appointed Alhaji Mohammed Aminu Lamptey Hussein as its new Director of Communications, marking the return of a seasoned media professional who has long been admired within both the journalism and Muslim communities.
Alhaji Lamptey’s appointment signals a renewed focus on effective communication and public engagement as the PAOG gears up for preparations toward Hajj 2026. With over twenty years of experience across journalism, public relations, and media management, his leadership is expected to bring clarity, transparency, and innovation to the office’s communication strategies.
This is not his first time serving at the Hajj Office. Between 2013 and 2017, Alhaji Lamptey worked as Deputy Communications Director under the administration of Hon. Alhaji Abdul-Rauf Tanko Ibrahim. During that period, he partnered closely with Hon. Alhaji Alhassan Suhuyini to develop what many described as one of the most dynamic and responsive communications teams the PAOG had ever seen.
His time in office was particularly distinguished by his steady handling of crises. One of the most notable moments came during the tragic 2015 Mina stampede, when his communication approach earned national recognition. As panic spread among families of Ghanaian pilgrims, Alhaji Lamptey ensured that accurate information was provided swiftly, reducing confusion and speculation. His composed demeanor and commitment to factual reporting became a model for crisis communication in public institutions.

Beyond crisis management, Alhaji Lamptey is credited with introducing a number of groundbreaking communication initiatives during his earlier tenure. These included the introduction of daily flight updates and real-time information channels between Ghana and Saudi Arabia, allowing pilgrims and their families to stay informed throughout the Hajj process. These innovations helped establish a new level of trust between the PAOG and the public.
Away from the Hajj operations, Alhaji Lamptey has built an impressive career in the broader media and communications landscape. For the past eight years, he has served as a lecturer in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, and Communication, contributing to the development of the next generation of media professionals. His experience in both academia and practice gives him a unique understanding of modern communication challenges.
He has also worked extensively in sports communication. As the Director of Communications for the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Alhaji Lamptey became a familiar voice to sports fans across the country. His lively commentary and professional ring announcing helped elevate the image of Ghanaian boxing both locally and internationally.
In the corporate world, his expertise in strategic communication was put to the test in 2023 when he joined Marwako Fast Food Limited as Public Relations Manager. During a period when the company faced a major public relations crisis, Alhaji Lamptey’s calm approach and well-coordinated media strategy helped stabilize the brand and restore public confidence, eventually leading to the successful relaunch of operations.
Those who have worked with him describe Alhaji Lamptey as disciplined, approachable, and deeply committed to service. His return to the Pilgrims Affairs Office is being welcomed as a step in the right direction for strengthening public communication and improving engagement with Ghanaian pilgrims.
With Hajj 2026 on the horizon, expectations are high that Alhaji Lamptey’s leadership will not only revive the spirit of excellence that once defined the PAOG’s communications but also introduce fresh ideas to meet the evolving demands of modern media.
His appointment, many believe, marks both a homecoming and a new chapter for the Hajj Office, one built on professionalism, transparency, and a renewed commitment to serving the Ghanaian Muslim community.
