Open Letter Greater Accra Regional Minister: A Call to Sanitize Accra Circle

Open Letter: A Call to Sanitize Accra Circle

As a concerned journalist and citizen regarding the pressing issue of youth migration to Accra, particularly in the Accra Circle area. It has become increasingly evident that thousands of young people from various regions of the country are flocking to the capital in search of better opportunities, often referred to as “greener pastures.” Unfortunately, many of these individuals find themselves in precarious situations, leading to a rise in criminal activities and social unrest.

The phenomenon of youth migrating to Accra with high hopes but ultimately becoming involved in crime, the use of hard drugs, often labelled as “Junkers” is alarming. These young people, driven by desperation and a lack of opportunities in their home regions, are often left with few options upon their arrival. The result is a growing population of individuals who, instead of contributing positively to society, become a source of concern and a threat to the safety of our communities.

In light of these challenges, I urge you to consider the following actions to help address this issue:

1. Implement Job Creation Initiatives: Develop programs that focus on creating sustainable job opportunities in the regions these youths are migrating from. This could involve partnerships with local businesses and organizations to stimulate economic growth. To Regional Ministers

2. Enhance Support Services: Establish support systems for youth who arrive in Accra, providing them with access to skills training, education, and counseling to help them reintegrate into society positively.

3. Strengthen Law Enforcement: Increase police presence and community engagement in Accra Circle to ensure safety and deter criminal activities. A proactive approach to law enforcement can help restore peace and security in the area.

4. Public Awareness Campaigns: Launch campaigns to educate young people about the realities of migrating to urban areas and the potential risks involved. Providing information on available opportunities in their home regions could help curb the influx.

5. Community Engagement: Involve community leaders and organizations in discussions about youth migration and crime, fostering collaborative solutions that address the root causes of these issues.

As the Greater Accra Regional Minister, your leadership is crucial in tackling this complex challenge. By addressing the underlying factors that drive youth migration and providing viable alternatives, we can work towards a safer and more prosperous Accra for all its residents.

I hope you will consider these suggestions seriously and take the necessary steps to create a positive change in our capital city.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
