
A fresh group of ambassadors and high commissioners has been proposed by President John Mahama to represent Ghana in various international positions.
Following discussions with the Council of State, the announcement, which was made in an official statement signed by Secretary to the President Dr. Callistus Mahama, indicates the administration’s intention to revise Ghana’s foreign policy perspective in the wake of a new political era.
Renowned economist and former minister Mona Helen Kabuki Quartey, who was appointed to lead Ghana’s mission in the Italian Republic, and seasoned energy specialist Dr. Kwame Ampofo, who was assigned to Hungary, are two of the notable individuals nominated.
The list also names former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Magnus Kofi Amoatey as Ghana’s envoy to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and veteran politician Paul Evans Aidoo, who is going to Kenya.
Since being transported to Ghana at the age of 14, Atta Kojo Choi, the ambassador-designate for South Korea, has resided there and obtained Ghanaian citizenship. Additional appointees include:
- Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Harruna – Republic of Namibia.
- Attah Kojo Choi – Republic of South Korea.
- Dr. Kwame Ampofo – Hungary
- Mona Helen Kabuki – Quartey Italian Republic
- Magnus Kofi Amoatey – Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Kenneth Akibate – Burkina Faso
- Said Saleh Sinare – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
- Paul Evans Aidoo – Republic of Kenya
To make the appointments easier, the Presidency has directed the appropriate agencies to start the formal procedures.
By constitutional procedures, these nominations are anticipated to go through additional screening and confirmation processes.
