Saminu Becomes Fastest Man In Ghana’s History With 9.84-Second Sprint Record

At the 2025 Last Chance Qualifier, which was held at McEachern High School in Georgia, Ghanaian athlete Saminu Abdul Rasheed set a scorching new national record in the men’s 100-meter event with a thrilling time of 9.84 seconds.

The 27-year-old Ghanaian sprinter earlier this year, broke Benjamin Azamati’s longstanding national record, has reached a significant milestone.

Saminu has now beaten his previous record by 0.02 seconds, solidifying his place as the fastest man in Ghanaian history.

Mustapha Bokpin, a fellow Ghanaian, finished in second place with a solid time of 10.09 seconds in an exciting finish.

Saminu, who has already earned a spot at the Tokyo World Championships, will try to continue his strong play and improve on his 2024 Olympic semifinal performance in Paris.

Behind only Kishane Thompson of Jamaica (9.75s) and Oblique Seville (9.83s), his performance puts him in third place overall this year.

Expectations for Saminu’s future on the global scene are increased by this record-breaking sprint, which marks his rise as one of Africa’s best sprinters.
