Ghana’s new ambassador to Turkey is Sheikh Abdul Nasiru-Deen, a humanitarian, respected Muslim cleric, and chemist with Turkish training, appointed by President John Dramani Mahama.
Sheikh Nasiru-Deen, a graduate of Ankara University and a fluent speaker of Turkish, has established close ties with Turkey in the 1990s through business, education, government, and religious institutions.
Sheikh Nasir Deen is currently the chairman of the Ghana National Mosque Complex’s management and was instrumental in gaining Turkish support for the project.
He has consistently committed to enhancing Ghana-Turkey ties throughout his career. His ability to speak several languages, including English, Arabic, Turkish, and several Ghanaian languages, improves his ability to interact with people from different cultural backgrounds and foster cross-cultural understanding.
The newly appointed Ambassador to Turkey was President Erdoğan’s official interpreter during his state visit to Ghana in 2016.
He has given thousands of people in underprivileged communities food packages, boreholes, and educational support through his Paragon Foundation and schools.
Scholarships for Ghanaian students and training opportunities for teachers and artisans in Turkey have also been made possible by Sheikh Nasiru-Deen.
His appointment has been widely praised, with many characterising it as a calculated move to improve Ghana-Turkey ties via humanitarian collaborations, education, and diplomacy.
