International non-governmental organisation, Direct Aid, has donated food items to 6,000 families across Ghana.
Each family received a package containing a 10kg bag of rice, 2 bottles of cooking oil, 2 packets of tomatoes, and 4 packets of spaghetti to support them during the spiritual month of Ramadan.
Yearly, Muslims fast for 29 or 30 days, but with the increasing cost of living, many families are unable to take care of themselves due to the ongoing economic crisis. According to Mr. Ali Abdul Salaam Ali, Director of Direct Aid’s Mercy Social Center, this is the reason they continue to increase their support for Ghanaian families every year during Ramadan.
He revealed that about 600 families within Adentan, Madina, and its environs received the package in Accra. This year’s Ramadan package is targeted at about 6,000 families across Ghana.
Similar items will be distributed in Kumasi, Tamale, Cape Coast, Nsawam, and Koforidua as part of their annual Ramadan distribution in the country.
To ensure that the most needy receive the donation, coupons are given to imams and opinion leaders in respective communities to select qualified individuals who are basically the needy in society.
Notably, some non-Muslims also benefit from the Ramadan distribution.
