The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has categorically denied recent media reports suggesting that Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd. (SML) has resumed or expanded its operations in the upstream petroleum and solid minerals sectors.
In a statement from its Communication and Public Affairs Department, the GRA expressed concern over articles published on May 14, 2025, by various media outlets, including the Business and Financial Times and Graphic Online, that claimed SML had launched an extended oversight mandate.
“The Authority’s suspension of SML’s services in the upstream petroleum and mineral sectors, which was put in place in April 2024, is still in effect,” the GRA clarified.
The Authority emphasized that it has not directed SML to resume or initiate operations under the 2023 Consolidation of Revenue Assurance Services Contract. “The GRA has not instructed SML to activate or resume operations related to those sectors under the aforementioned contract,” the statement added.
GRA further explained, “We are committed to ensuring that any third-party engagement in revenue assurance is conducted in full compliance with due process and transparency. At this time, no approval has been granted to SML for upstream operations.”
The GRA reassured stakeholders in the petroleum and mining sectors, as well as the general public, of its dedication to maintaining revenue integrity. “We want to make it clear that protecting the nation’s revenue with integrity and transparency remains our top priority,” the statement emphasized.
