At a time when journalism faces numerous challenges, from ethical depletion to government crackdowns and sustainability issues, concerted efforts are needed to ensure the media serves its purpose: informing the public accurately and timely.
By the 15th century, the first Hausa settlers had already arrived in Ghana. In the 1990s, the Hausa media in Ghana began on the state broadcaster, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, as a form of art. Later, on festival days like Eid Fitri and Adha, Hausa movies entertained audiences on screens, even though TV sets were a luxury at the time. Fast forward to the early 2000s, Zuria 88.7 FM and Marhaba in Accra pioneered the mainstream Hausa media industry in Ghana, paving the way for others.
Today, we have 10 full-time Hausa broadcasting radio stations, three full-time TV stations, over 10 radio stations with weekly or daily Hausa bulletins or programs, and more than 50 social media-based Hausa blogs in Ghana. All these platforms inform the Hausa-speaking population of Ghana.
However, there was a gap – the lack of a Zango-focused website providing timely and accurate information about the Zango communities. This has contributed to sensationalism in the mainstream Ghanaian media.
At Hafiz TV’s news website, our obligation is to the truth, our loyalty to Ghanaian Hausa speakers, and allegiance to Allah the Almighty.
Our focus is on indigenous and local communities, specifically the Zango communities.
We promise to be fair, accurate, and abide by the highest journalism standards. While we can’t always guarantee the truth, we promise to get our facts right.
On this website’s launch, we pay homage to the indigenes of our Zango communities who have through journalism significantly contributed to Ghana’s socio-economic development, like Anas Aremeyaw Anas, who risks his life to expose wrongdoing through investigations.
We honor the founding Hausa radio stations, Zuria and Marhaba, who took the lead decades ago despite unfavorable conditions.
We remember colleagues attacked, and those killed in the line of duty, like Ahmed Hussein Suale, and pray Allah forgives and grants them Jannah.
On behalf of our publisher, Hafiz Larry, and the team, we thank you for your support.
