The Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye, His Excellency Huseyin Güngör, has paid a visit to Ghana’s Vice President, Her Excellency Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

The purpose of the Ambassador’s visit was twofold: to congratulate Vice President Opoku-Agyemang on her historic achievement as Ghana’s first female Vice President and to reaffirm the strong bilateral relations between Ghana and Türkiye.

During their meeting, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang and Ambassador Güngör discussed the excellent relations between the two countries and pledged to maintain this cordial partnership.

Ambassador Güngör reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to working closely with Ghana in areas of mutual benefit, emphasising the potential for further collaboration.

Türkiye and Ghana enjoy close and cordial relations as development partners, particularly in cultural and religious spheres. The Turkish government-funded Ghana’s national mosque, the second-largest in West Africa, at a cost of approximately $10 million.

Turkish companies have also been active in Ghana, primarily in the energy and construction sectors.

The bilateral trade volume between Türkiye and Ghana, which stood at $399.5 million in 2015, rose to $478.9 million in 2016. As of 2018, the trade volume between the two countries was $353.3 million.

Türkiye primarily exports cement, pasta, insulated cables and wires, flour, iron and steel products, and chemical fertilisers to Ghana. In return, Turkish imports from Ghana include gold, cocoa and cocoa products, and cotton.
